Preseason Outlook

Johnson cools off vs. Titans: In the Lions' 47-10 loss vs. the Titans on Thanksgiving as part of Week 13 action, WR Calvin Johnson was targeted 10 times but caught just five passes for 66 yards with his longest catch being 20 yards on a deep ball late in the game.

Fantasy Analysis

For weeks we were concerned about Johnson's production dipping because of the bad offense and quarterback play in Detroit, but Johnson continually put up good numbers. This is about as bad as it could get for Johnson's owners, and there's no guarantee that he'll exceed this total in any given week. But because he is brimming with talent and potential, owners are forced to keep him active. We like his chances for a better game vs. Minnesota in Week 14.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Matchups

Lions WR Calvin Johnson didn't have a monster rookie season as most experts predicted, but he wasn't terrible either. Johnson injured his lower back in the third week of the season and suffered through the injury all year. He comes into 2008 healthy and ready to dominate the NFL, already talking this offseason about trying to reach 1,200 yards receiving in his second year. Look for Johnson to be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option with plenty of upside. He should be drafted somewhere around Round 6 or 7 and has the chance to play like a No. 1 Fantasy WR. The one concern is the Lions going from a pass-happy offense under former offensive coordinator Mike Martz to a more running style under Jim Colletto, but Johnson remains a great talent and should still produce.
