P. Manning not himself at Browns

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning, who entered the game with 11 touchdown passes over his last five, went without a score in a nightmarish afternoon at Cleveland in Week 13. He finished 15-of-21 passing for 125 yards and two interceptions. Afterward, Manning could only laugh when asked to assess his performance. "I'm sure I could, but I'd rather not," Manning said with a laugh. "Our defense won the game for us." | Analysis: Manning was unable to find the same gaping holes in Cleveland's secondary that Houston quarterback Sage Rosenfels, Denver's Jay Cutler and Baltimore's Joe Flacco exploited in recent weeks. The 125 yards represented a season low for him and only the 10th time in 172 career starts that he was under 150 yards. The loss of center Jeff Saturday hurt, but you still had to expect Manning to exploit such a poor matchup. He has an equally good matchup Week 14 against the Bengals, so keep him active. |

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning completed 32-of-44 passing for 255 yards, two touchdowns and one interception Sunday at San Diego. He led the Colts on a comeback victory and avenged two previous losses against the Chargers. | Analysis: Manning remains a No. 1 Fantasy option and should be started in all leagues in Week 13 at Cleveland. Look for another good game against the Browns porous pass defense. He now has nine touchdown passes in his past four games. |
Manning has San Diego concerned

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning watches the last three games and sees progress. Not perfection, but at least he and the Colts are beginning to play like their old selves. Manning is throwing more touchdowns, fewer interceptions, avoiding sacks and winning games with his masterful play calling. He's spreading the ball around, opening up running lanes with passes and, yes, he's finally in sync with the receivers. Memo to the NFL: Manning is back. "The way they've played the last three weeks, it looks like Indianapolis to me," San Diego coach Norv Turner, who faces Manning in Week 12, said Wednesday. "To do what they did against Pittsburgh, I was awfully impressed with that." | Analysis: Manning has 814 yards and seven touchdown passes over his last three games. After struggling to bounce back from a preseason knee surgery earlier this season, he looks like his studly self again and a must-start in Fantasy, which comes as no surprised to Turner. "There's no question offense is about rhythm and continuity and being together," Turner said. "I don't care who you are, and as good as Peyton is and with everything he's done, if you miss that much time and then you don't have all the parts, it's going to take a toll." Don't even think about benching Manning Week 12 at San Diego. |
Manning looks like MVP Week 11

| News: Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning connected on 30 of his 46 pass attempts for 320 yards and two touchdowns against the Texans in a 33-27 Week 11 victory. Manning hit Marvin Harrison nine times for 77 yards and a touchdown and the two-time league MVP led Indianapolis on four straight scoring drives in the second half for the win. He added a 23-yard TD pass to Joseph Addai in the 3rd quarter. | Analysis: He looked like vintage Manning in Week 11 and how has 560 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions in his last two games. He's a must-start in Fantasy at all times and is a safe bet to shred the Chargers defense in Week 12 in San Diego. |
Manning leads comeback vs. Steelers
|
Updated 11/9/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Peyton Manning took advantage of Ben Roethlisberger's second costly interception to find Dominic Rhodes out of the backfield on a 17-yard touchdown pass with 3:04 remaining for Indianapolis' only lead, and the Colts came back in a virtual must-win game to beat the Steelers 24-20 Week 10. Manning also hit Reggie Wayne on a 65-yard touchdown pass play on a tipped ball and Dallas Clark on a 2-yard scoring pass seconds before halftime following an unnecessary interception by Roethlisberger to end the Colts' 40-year losing streak in Pittsburgh. | Analysis: Manning, who was 21-of-40 for 240 yards, frequently threw into coverage as the Steelers frequently loaded up with six defensive backs, yet repeatedly converted key throws. Manning didn't create any turnovers and looked like his vintage self after a very disappointing first half of the season. Manning still has only one 300-yard game in 2008, but has seven touchdowns in his last three games and doesn't have a pick in two straight. His confidence seems to be rising and that's great news for Fantasy owners. Manning remains a must-start Fantasy option heading into Week 11 against the Texans. Manning had 247 yards and two touchdowns in his first game against Houston this season. |

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning was 21-of-29 passing for 254 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday against New England. Manning now has four touchdowns and two interceptions in his past two games with a rushing touchdown against the Patriots and Titans. | Analysis: Manning threw two touchdowns to Anthony Gonzalez, which should open the field for him. Manning has another tough game in Week 10 at Pittsburgh but continue to start him in all leagues. |
Manning struggling through 2008
|
Updated 10/29/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: After opening the last three seasons with at least seven straight wins, the Colts' playoff hopes are teetering. They've lost two straight, fallen four games behind the division-leading Titans and are mired in a logjam in the AFC South with the toughest part of the schedule still ahead. The problems have raised a myriad of questions, but most focus on the struggles of Peyton Manning. Manning, a model of consistency over his first decade in the league, is off to his worst start since his rookie season. He's completed just 61.1 percent of his passes and has thrown nearly as many interceptions (nine) as touchdowns (10). A year ago, the perennial Pro Bowler completed 65.4 percent of his passes and threw 31 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Monday night's loss at Tennessee was the latest example of things not looking right. Instead of the crisp, precise passes Manning is known for, his throws repeatedly wobbled, sailed high and fell short, leading some to surmise Manning was still not 100 percent after having two surgeries on his left knee in July. Manning denied he was hurting Wednesday and downplayed any perceived link between Indy's poor start and the infected bursa sac he had removed. Or any other injury. "It's certainly not an excuse," he said. "It's something I'd never use as an excuse. We just need to play better." | Analysis: One problem has been the offensive line, which has gotten most of its injured players back in the past three weeks but has yielded nine sacks and allowed Manning to be pressured far more than that. Manning and his receivers haven't been themselves, either. There have been dropped balls, miscommunications and errant throws. Still, Manning delivered three total touchdowns in Week 8 at Tennessee -- a tough matchup -- and still has the potential to post a big game, much like he did vs. Baltimore earlier this season. With the arch-rival Patriots marching to Indianapolis in Week 9, expect Manning to battle a pass defense that has allowed 11 scores through the air this season. Start him if you own him. |
P. Manning scores three touchdowns

| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Coming off one of his worst performances of the season, Colts QB Peyton Manning scored three touchdowns for the second time this season Week 8 at Tennessee, though one came on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. He finished 26-of-41 passing for 223 yards, two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. | Analysis: So much for Manning struggling against that tough defense. He did throw the two interceptions, but the second one came on a tipped pass. Apart from that miserable performance against the Packers last time out, he has made steady progress all season since missing the entire preseason with a knee injury and once again looks like the kind of quarterback you'd start regardless of matchup. The Colts face the Patriots in Week 9. |
Manning throws two TDs...to Packers
|
Updated 10/19/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: An undermanned defense returned two Peyton Manning passes for touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers rediscovered their swagger in a 34-14 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The Packers defense was without defensive backs Al Harris and Atari Bigby due to injury, but the defense held Manning to 21-of-42 for 229 yards and two interceptions. Manning was denied a touchdown, although he came close twice in the fourth quarter. On the same drive and on consecutive plays, Manning threw 15-yard touchdowns to Anthony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark. However, they were both challenged and overturned as Gonzalez's touchdown was ruled incomplete and Clark was ruled out at the 1-yard line. | Analysis: The Colts' defense spent so much time on the field that Manning didn't have many chances to answer the Packers' sustained scoring drives. And when he did have the ball, he didn't look particularly sharp against a Packers defense. And unlike earlier games against Minnesota and Houston, Manning couldn't orchestrate a comeback. Instead, Manning was victimized by the Packers' undermanned secondary just after halftime. Manning has thrown two interceptions in three games this season and has seven on the season to eight touchdown passes. He doesn't look like his normal MVP-self and perhaps two preseason knee injuries is the culprit. Without question, it's safe to call Manning a must-start quarterback for the rest of the season since you likely spent a high draft pick on him. But perhaps keep expectations in check heading into Week 8 against the Titans. |
Manning had two offseason surgeries
|
Updated 10/13/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Colts coach Tony Dungy confirmed Monday, after nearly two months of deflecting questions, that quarterback Peyton Manning had two surgeries on his left knee before returning to the field in late August. Dungy said Manning's second knee surgery was not why the team had a sluggish start this season. He didn't look like himself until Sunday, when he threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns vs. Baltimore. | Analysis: If Manning did have surgery, it's paid off. He looked solid, if not relentless, in first-half action against the Ravens in Week 6. Without question, it's safe to call Manning a must-start quarterback for the rest of the season. Look for Manning to remain hot in Week 7 at Green Bay. |

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning was 19-of-28 passing for 271 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday against the Ravens. He also had two carries for minus-2 yards. | Analysis: Manning continues to get better each week and connected with his touchdowns to Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison (two). Look for Manning to remain hot in Week 7 at Green Bay and consider him a No. 1 Fantasy option. |
Manning to face Ravens in Week 6
|
Updated 10/9/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Peyton Manning has met his Week 6 opponents, the Ravens six times in his career and has won the last four meetings. His last two meetings against them were a regular-season game in 2007 and a playoff game in 2006, both in Baltimore, and both very different games. The Colts managed 15 points -- on five field goals -- in the playoff game, and 44 points -- six touchdowns and a safety -- in last year's contest. The Ravens are ranked No. 1 in the NFL against the pass, allowing 128.5 pass yards per game. They've given up just three passing touchdowns and have seven interceptions in four games, a ratio beat only by the Titans. | Analysis: A combination of a thin secondary and poor offense gave Manning all he needed to exploit the Ravens last year. Avoiding their pass rush, Manning made Baltimore pay with a heavy workload to Anthony Gonzalez resulting in 134 yards on six catches with two touchdowns. Manning rallied his team in the fourth quarter last Sunday to help Indianapolis beat Houston. Manning finished 25-of-34 passing for 247 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He remains a No. 1 option in Week 6 against Baltimore. It will be a tough matchup against the Ravens, but Manning will still put up solid numbers. |

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning rallied the team in the fourth quarter Sunday with a late touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne to help Indianapolis beat Houston. Manning finished 25-of-34 passing for 247 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also added four carries for 8 yards. Both of Manning's touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. | Analysis: Manning had a good history against the Texans, with 13 touchdowns and no interceptions in his past five meetings, so he struggled some this week. Still, he posted solid Fantasy stats and remains a No. 1 option in Week 6 against Baltimore. It will be a tough matchup against the Ravens, but Manning will still put up solid numbers. |
Here's a shock: Start Peyton

| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: You're probably starting Peyton Manning at Houston in Week 5 anyway, but we thought you'd like to know that he's thrown 10 TDs and zero INTs with a 297.2 passing-yard average in his last four games against Texans. Houston also happens to have the ninth-best pass defense, but that shouldn't deter you here. | Analysis: Expect a solid game from Manning in Week 5. Start him in all leagues. Manning has another off game

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning threw for just 216 yards in Week 3 against Jacksonville. He threw one touchdown pass for a third consecutive week and he threw two interceptions for a second straight game. | Analysis: There's no question that Peyton Manning does not to be 100 percent recovered from his knee injury and that has reflected in his numbers so far this season. But Fantasy owners should also remember that he didn't participate in the preseason this year and is still -- in some ways -- in that mode during the first month of the season. Hopefully, once he returns from his bye in Week 4, the Colts offense will start flying like we all expect at Houston. There's no need for serious panic just yet. |
Manning gets Clark, Saturday back
|
Updated 9/19/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Colts coach Tony Dungy said center Jeff Saturday and TE Dallas Clark, both out in Week 2 at Minnesota with knee injuries, are expected in the starting lineup for the Colts (1-1) on Sunday against Jacksonville. Both players went through full workouts this week. The return of both players will help QB Peyton Manning, who has been good for at least 250 passing yards in six of his 10 regular-season meetings against the Jaguars since Jack Del Rio took over as head coach, including each of the last three meetings. | Analysis: Getting Saturday and Clark back is a huge boost for Manning. Continue to start him as a No. 1 Fantasy option in all leagues. |
Manning no TD machine vs. Jags

| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning has been good for at least 250 passing yards in six of his 10 regular-season meetings against the Jaguars since Jack Del Rio took over as head coach, including each of the last three meetings. While he threw four TDs in their last meeting, Manning has thrown only one or no touchdown passes in four of their last six encounters. Indy hosts Jacksonville in Week 3. | Analysis: Unlike teammate Joseph Addai, Manning is a first-round pick in most leagues who is going to start in your Fantasy lineup every week -- no matter who the Colts are facing. Stick him in their again for Week 3 and hope his O-line can give him some time to pick the Jags apart. |

| News: Colts QB Peyton Manning, playing without his starting center Jeff Saturday (knee) and TE Dallas Clark (knee), shook off a poor start Sunday at Minnesota to lead the Colts to an 18-15 victory. Manning was 26-of-42 passing for 311 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked twice but was hit hard throughout the game. | Analysis: Manning is always a candidate for a good game even without his top personnel. Consider Manning a No. 1 Fantasy option in Week 3 against Jacksonville and hope Saturday and Clark will return. |
Manning ready for Minnesota
|
Updated 9/12/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Peyton Manning will make only his second trip to the Metrodome in Minneapolis on Sunday, his first in the regular season. His only previous appearance produced one of the more unsettling moments in his professional career. Manning spent the second half of the Colts' 2001 preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on the bench with his right leg heavily wrapped. He sprained his right knee late in the second quarter when Vikings DT Chris Hovan rolled onto the back of Manning's legs after Manning had completed a pass. "I stayed in the rest of that series and finished the two-minute drive at the end of the half," Manning said in the Indianapolis Star. "I guess at the time . . . (if) I thought it was catastrophic, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish the series. You hope for some good fortune and hope you can stay out of harm's way." | Analysis: Manning should be in line for a good outing against the Vikings. They improved their pass defense coming into this year but were still among the worst secondaries in 2007. Consider Manning a No. 1 Fantasy option this week. |
Manning eager for bounce-back game
|
Updated 9/10/2008 |
| Peyton Manning, QB IND | |
| News: Peyton Manning worked his way back into the Indianapolis Colts lineup and through a couple of uncharacteristic quarters in the season-opener. He hopes another week of practice will help him revert to his efficient MVP-like form. The Colts' franchise quarterback acknowledged Wednesday he wasn't himself in Sunday night's season-opening loss to Chicago. "Obviously, you don't want to tell the Bears, 'Hey, I'll be this percent before the game,"' Manning said. "But I knew I probably wouldn't be 100 percent for that game. Hopefully, I can just keep working each week and get more and more comfortable." | Analysis: Even Manning, who has never missed a start in 11 NFL seasons, wasn't sure what to expect after the longest absence of his pro or college career. He spent six weeks recuperating from mid-July surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee and missed all five of Indy's preseason games. Manning didn't begin full workouts with his teammates until last week. That created questions about how quickly Manning could get back in synch with Pro Bowl receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, and tight end Dallas Clark. Clearly, the timing was off last weekend. Manning and the receivers couldn't connect consistently on deep passes and never quite had that precision the Colts' offense is known for. Expect better weeks ahead for the guy you drafted with either your first or second pick and keep him active for Week 2 at Minnesota. Manning just needs repetition; that's all. |
